Subletting

 

The Wohnheimsverwaltung at the Studentenwerk (Pontwall 3) has a list where you can enter your name if you are looking for a subtenant.

You can sublet your room/apartment for up to three months. In order to sublet your room please ensure the following criteria are met:

  • You have lived in your room/apartment for more than three months.
  • The subtenant must be an enrolled student (include proof).
  • After the sublet the original resident continues to living in the room/apartment for more than three months.
  • If the original resident does not intend to return, the maximum sublet duration is reduced to eight weeks. Please do not forge to submit a cancellation in time
  • It is not possible for the subtenant to take over the room after the sublet ends.
  • The proof of a good reason for the sublet (internship/staying abroad) has to be provided.
  • No subcontractor can live longer than three months at any one of the student residences.
  • The subcontractor will not receive another subcontract before 3 months after the previous subcontract hast ended.
  • The main resident is in charge of paying the rent.
  • A sublet is only possible when granted by all of the following: one of the Etagensprecher, the spokesman of the Accommodation Committee, the caretaker and the Studentenwerk.
  • Without the signature of the Etagensprecher the spokesman of the Allocation Committee cannot sign the sublet, so get that signature first!

Note: The “Antrag auf Untermiete” (“Subtenancy Form”) is not a leagal contract between you and your subtenant. The sole purpose of this form is to certify that the Studentenwerk will allow the named subtenant to live in your room. We strongly recommend you to produce a contract between you and the subtenant and to ask for a deposit for possible damages to the room.

We would like to reiterate that no subcontractor may takeover the room after the sublet has ended!
